La escasez de medicamentos que sufren muchos hospitales de iraquíes está haciendo que los médicos traten a sus pacientes con acupuntura, mediante estas antiguas técnicas ya se había conseguido tratar a 200 pacientes en un hospital de Bagdad, por lo que los médicos creen que esta antigua técnica china también puede usarse en hospitales más modernos y equipados.
La idea de los médicos al utilizar la acupuntura era reducir o reemplazar las cantidades de la escasa oxitocina que les quedaba, un medicamento utilizado en casos de parto con cesárea que ayuda a reducir los riesgos por hemorragia después del parto. Este tratamiento mediante técnicas de acupuntura resulto de gran utilidad y el 45% de las mujeres tratadas no necesitaron tomar el medicamento, mientras que un 30% solo necesito 2 dosis.
Para este tratamiento se insertaron seis agujas en distintos puntos de la acupuntura, como los dedos de los pies y los tobillos. Los puntos estimulados estaban relacionados con el prolapso del útero, el útero, la dificultad del parto, las contracciones uterinas y la retención de la placenta.
